Online Behavior Coaching for Technology Addiction

Services Overview

In today’s fast-paced and digital world, technology has become an integral part of our daily lives. From smartphones and social media to video games and streaming platforms, the allure of technology can be both beneficial and harmful, especially for young people. While it enhances communication, productivity, and entertainment, it also brings with it the risk of addiction. Technology addiction, also known as digital addiction or internet addiction, is a growing concern that can have severe repercussions on individuals’ mental, emotional, and physical well-being. In response to this modern challenge and overwhelming client demand, the Summerland Camps program is now offering online behavior coaching. As the creators of the first and longest-running summer camp for technology addiction, we offer online behavior coaching to help individuals regain control over their digital habits and lead healthier, more balanced lives.

The Role of Online Behavior Coaching

Online behavior coaching offers a structured and personalized approach to address technology addiction. This form of coaching leverages the convenience and accessibility of digital platforms to connect coaches with adolescents, teens, and young adults from anywhere in the world. By fostering a supportive and confidential virtual environment, online behavior coaching provides an effective means for individuals to overcome their technology addiction challenges.

What is Included?

  1. Personalized Assessments: Summerland Camps online behavior coaching begins with a thorough assessment of the individual’s technology usage patterns, identifying the triggers and underlying causes of addiction. This personalized approach enables coaches to tailor interventions to suit each individual’s specific needs.
  2. Goal Setting and Accountability: Coaches work with clients to establish realistic goals and action plans to reduce technology usage with their Behavior Planning Journal (BPJ). Regular check-ins and accountability mechanisms keep clients on track and motivated to make positive changes.
  3. Cognitive Behavioral Techniques: Online behavior coaching often incorporates cognitive-behavioral techniques to challenge negative thought patterns and cultivate healthier habits. By identifying and modifying automatic reactions to technology stimuli, individuals can gradually regain control over their behaviors.
  4. Stress Management: Coaches help clients explore healthier coping mechanisms for stress and boredom, reducing the need for escapism through excessive technology use.
  5. Time Management and Productivity: Learning to manage technology use more efficiently can lead to increased productivity and a better school-life or work-life balance. Coaches assist clients in optimizing their technology habits to enhance productivity and focus.
  6. Digital Detox Strategies: Coaches guide clients through digital detox strategies, gradually reducing screen time to help break the cycle of addiction.
  7. Relapse Prevention: Technology addiction recovery is not always smooth sailing. Coaches equip clients with strategies to prevent relapses and handle setbacks, empowering them to sustain long-term behavior change.
  8. Parent Education and Involvement: Coaches work with parents by communicating the child’s progress and providing parenting strategies when appropriate.

Dr. Mike Bishop

Summerland Program Founder

Your child will work with Dr. Mike Bishop or a qualified behavior coach he personally supervises when you register for the Summerland Online Program.

By working with a behavior coach online, your child will be able to immediately benefit from the Summerland Program. Additionally, if you decide to enroll your child in the camp at a later date, they will arrive familiar with the self-regulation methodology that is integral to the success of the program.

Typical Individual Session

For individual sessions, an experienced Summerland Camps behavior coach will work with your child each week for 50 minutes. A typical session begins with a review of the Behavior Planning Journal (BPJ), a review of how time was tracked and spent since the last session, a review of goals completion efforts, strategizing on new goals, and planning behaviors and tasks for the next week.

Screen time is planned and tracked along with sleep, school, homework, work duties (if applicable), chores, hygiene, exercise, socialization, health, and any other obligations or commitments.

The Summerland Camps Behavior Coach will also teach, when appropriate, strategies relating to:

  • Attitude and motivation
  • Stress management
  • Self-talk
  • Stimulus control
  • Building of social support systems
  • Problem-solving
  • Cognitive restructuring
  • Self-monitoring
  • Assistance and encouragement in identifying alternate activities for socialization

A weekly email will also be provided to the parent after each session recapping the session and next steps.
