Video Game Rehab for Indiana Teens

Indiana families seek our video game rehab center because of our unique ability to adapt to the therapeutic skill-building curriculum of Indiana campers. Our video game addiction rehab helps gamers develop the internal drive and motivation to focus on what’s important: relationships, friends, family, and academics- not the latest video game.

Lack of self-regulation is the common denominator that affects a camper’s preoccupation with video games and a lack of focus on everything else: school, friends, chores, reading, and so on. At Summerland Camps for Technology Addiction, developing self-regulation skills is what we do.

Using a harm reduction approach, Summerland Camps for Technology Addiction campers become enlightened as to the habit-forming qualities of video games and social media, in addition to how exposure to different types of online media can change your perceptions of violence or gender roles. Our video game rehab uses a harm reduction approach because it’s not realistic to totally give up computers and smartphones.

Under a harm reduction approach, teens learn how to limit their time devoted to video games, and to make better choices about how they are using screens. Many times campers are unaware of the harm they are causing by playing endless hours of video games. Our structured video game rehab will help your teen learn to make better decisions about their daily life choices.

Video Game Addiction Help: Individual and Group Therapy for Indiana Teens at Summerland Camps for Technology Addiction

Teens and young adults at our video game and social media addiction treatment program receive individual and group therapy for video game addiction and internet overuse habits. We have licensed therapists helping teens develop insight and commit to new routines in life. In individual therapy, the issues are brought forth with one therapist listening and responding to the concerns. The type of feedback that is given, or if feedback is given, is dependent on the therapist’s training. The highly personal nature of the exchange between the therapist and student allows for a specific focus on the issues presented.

Group therapy, on the other hand, involves simultaneous interaction with people typically outside the client’s social and familial network: relative strangers. Our campers can hear how video games have affected other’s lives and relationships. Input can be both given and received from other campers in this format.

We also have family therapy sessions where we help parents best support their teens upon their transition home from Summerland Camps for Technology Addiction. We discuss in family sessions how parents can reinforce positive feelings when a child sticks to their behavioral contract and we also encourage parents to reinforce negative feelings when the child fails to live up to behavioral expectations.

Teens from Indiana Have Been Found to Suffer Depression Due to Screen Addiction

Video game addiction help is a much-needed service for many teens. Research has consistently shown that all screen activities are linked to less happiness, and all non-screen activities are linked to more happiness. Scientists in China and the US have led the way in using MRI scans to demonstrate the similarities in brain patterns between gaming addicts and people with addictions to drugs, alcohol, and gambling.

In one study, the researchers from Beijing Normal University took a group of more than 2,000 campers 16 to 21, who had gamed more than two hours a day over the past four years, before refining it to 63 gaming addicts who had MRI brain scans. These researchers found those who were addicted to gaming were twice as likely to be depressed as those who did not game.

The study found the more severe their internet addiction when they were younger, the more likely they were to suffer depression later. Conversely, greater depression at a younger age was also associated with gaming addiction later.

Our video game rehab will help your teen learn healthy new routines- and we will help them transfer these skills back home by preparing them for success. Socialization practice and time management are key components of the program. All Indiana campers who come to Summerland Camps for Technology Addiction get the opportunity to learn and practice new ways of interacting and making friends.
