Campus Description

Mars Hill University is a small, friendly university in the breathtakingly beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.  The town of Mars Hill, which derives its name from the university, has a population of about 2,200. It is approximately 20 minutes north of Asheville, NC and approximately 45 minutes southwest of Johnson City, TN.

From the 194-acre campus, which sits at an elevation of 2,330 feet, an inspiring panorama of lofty peaks may be viewed, including the Craggies and Clingman’s Peak.

Such scenic attractions as Mount Mitchell, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Craggy Gardens, Linville Falls and Cavern, the French Broad River and Nantahala River whitewater, Biltmore House and Gardens, Big Bald Mountain, and the Blue Ridge Parkway are within easy driving distance.

Dorm Space

Summerland Camps has exclusive use of Myers dormitory at Mars Hill University during the summer.  The dorm offers scenic views of the campus, communal space, and shared rooms.  Myers has an active lounge with both ping pong and pool tables. Myers is close to Pittman Dining Hall and Nash Education Hall.

Safe and Supervised

Summerland North Carolina is safe and supervised, with dorms occupied only by Summerland North Carolina staff and campers. Counselors live in adjacent dorm rooms, within earshot of campers, and staff ensures that our campus remains a completely safe venue where we can focus on having fun, changing habits, developing skills, and creating life-long, enduring change for campers

Dining Facilities

Summerland North Carolina campers eat at Pittman Dining Hall,  Pittman is Mars Hill’s main dining facility, is the primary stop for everything from breakfast to dinner. In addition to its daily rotating menu, Pittman offers made-to-order deli sandwiches, house-made soups and salads, and our always popular wood fired pizzas.
