Video Game Fitness Challenge
Looking for a video game fitness challenge? Parent’s today often witness kids sit in front of screens for hours playing video games, social media, or endless internet browsing.
It’s time to change it up and help your kids step away from the screen and get active.
A fun creative idea is to set up a family video game challenge to help kids break away from the routine of daily video game use. At Summerland Camps, we recommend getting the entire family involved, not just the child that overuses screens.
Here are some tips parents can use to challenge kids to be more active:
1. Set a timer for kids. For example, 30 minutes of video game time = 30 minutes of outdoor activity.
2. Try a family video game night and play Wii Dance, Bowling or another active video game. Taking turns and cheering each other on helps promote a healthy social environment and boost physical activity.
3. Change up the routine and don’t allow your child to stay in their room playing video games alone. Challenge your child to their favorite sports activity first (example: playing catch, passing a soccer ball, shooting hoops). This is a much better routine and allows for less screen time and active social interaction.
