Healthy Snacks for Gamers
Do your kids spend more time in their room then outside playing with friends? If screen time is taking up a majority of your child’s time they most likely are not getting enough exercise. Many kids grab quick unhealthy snacks before heading up to their room for hours of gaming.
Without daily physical exercise, those extra calories and inactivity can cause weight gain which may also lead to low self-esteem.
As parents, we first should limit the gaming time to allow for some social physical activity but we also can help by providing healthy snacking options. Limiting caloric intake is part of a larger family intervention.
Here are a few healthy snacks for kids:
1. Celery sticks with reduced calorie peanut butter
2. Apple slices with sugar-free caramel
3. Carrots and fat-free ranch dip
4. Fruit Salad
5. Popcorn (skip the extra salt and butter)
Strive for a balance of screen time, physical activity and healthy snacking.
Happy Snacking!
