Why Summerland Camps is the Perfect Summer Camp for Teens with ADHD

Finding the right summer camp for a teenager with ADHD can be a challenge. Parents want a camp that not only provides fun and adventure but also equips their teens with life skills to manage their unique challenges. Summerland Camps are specifically designed to meet those needs, offering a blend of engaging activities, practical learning opportunities, and a supportive community tailored for teens aged 12-21 with ADHD. Here’s why Summerland Camps stands out as the ideal choice for your teen.

1. A Break from Screen Overuse
One of the most common challenges for teens with ADHD is screen overuse, whether it’s video games, social media, or streaming platforms. Excessive screen time can exacerbate ADHD symptoms, making it harder for teens to focus, regulate their emotions, and engage in face-to-face interactions.

At Summerland Camps, we provide a technology-free environment where teens can disconnect from screens and reconnect with the world around them. This screen detox gives them the opportunity to rediscover the joys of outdoor activities, build meaningful relationships, and focus on self-improvement.

2. Engaging Activities That Build Confidence
Summerland Camps offers a wide range of activities tailored to captivate and inspire teens with ADHD. Whether it’s hiking, paddle boarding, or mountain biking, our programs are designed to keep campers engaged and active.

These activities are not just about fun; they’re about fostering a sense of accomplishment and confidence. Completing a hike or learning a new skill helps teens realize their potential and build resilience—qualities that are essential for managing ADHD in their daily lives.

3. Skills-Based Learning for Long-Term Success
At Summerland Camps, we take a holistic approach to helping teens with ADHD. Beyond recreational activities, we focus on teaching practical skills like:

  • Time management: Helping campers understand how to structure their days and prioritize tasks.
  • Goal setting: Guiding them in setting achievable goals and working step-by-step to accomplish them.
  • Self-regulation: Introducing strategies for managing emotions and maintaining focus in various situations.

These skills are integrated into camp activities, ensuring that learning feels natural and engaging rather than like a classroom setting. Campers leave with tools they can apply in school, at home, and in social settings.

4. Supportive Peer Community
One of the biggest advantages of Summerland Camps is the community we cultivate. Teens with ADHD often feel misunderstood or isolated, but here, they’re surrounded by peers who share similar challenges and experiences.

This supportive environment allows them to build friendships, practice social skills, and gain a sense of belonging. With guidance from our caring staff, teens learn to navigate social dynamics, develop empathy, and collaborate effectively with others.

5. Experienced, ADHD-Trained Staff
Our staff at Summerland Camps are not only experienced camp counselors but also trained in working with teens who have ADHD. They understand the unique needs of our campers and provide personalized support to help each teen thrive.

Whether it’s offering encouragement during a challenging activity or guiding a camper through a frustrating moment, our staff is there every step of the way, ensuring a positive and growth-oriented experience.

6. A Focus on Fun and Growth
While Summerland Camps is committed to teaching important life skills, we never lose sight of the fact that it’s summer! Our camp strikes the perfect balance between structured learning and free-spirited fun. From campfire nights to team-building games, we create an atmosphere where teens can relax, laugh, and enjoy themselves.

This balance of fun and growth makes the learning process enjoyable and memorable, reinforcing positive behaviors without feeling like work.
